Privacy Policy for CG Responder

CG Responder is developed and maintained by an individual developer. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.

Data Collection

CG Responder does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers or third parties. No analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs are included in the app.

SMS Access

CG Responder requires permission to receive and read SMS messages in order to detect official HM Coastguard Alert and Tasking attendance requests. Incoming SMS messages are processed locally on your device only. Outgoing SMS response codes are sent directly to HM Coastguard via your mobile network. No SMS data is shared with or transmitted to any third-party servers or services.

Sharing

CG Responder includes an optional share feature that allows you to share incident details, updates and summaries with your team. When you use this feature, the raw content of HMCG messages is shared via Android's standard share sheet to whichever app you choose (such as WhatsApp or Signal). This sharing is entirely user-initiated and controlled. CG Responder does not transmit this data itself.

Incident Data

Incident information parsed from HMCG SMS messages is stored locally in a database on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not shared with any third party.

Emergency Contacts

If you choose to configure emergency contacts, the app will send an SMS on your behalf when you respond to an incident. This is sent directly from your device using your own mobile network. No contact details are transmitted to any external server.

Permissions

CG Responder requests the following permissions:

• Receive SMS, Read SMS, Send SMS — to detect and respond to official HMCG Alert and Tasking messages
• Notifications — to alert you to incoming attendance requests
• Display over other apps — to show the alert screen when the phone is in use
• Full screen intent — to display the alert screen over the lock screen
• Battery optimisation exemption — to ensure alerts are received reliably without being delayed by battery saving

All permissions are explained in the app before being requested. No permission data is transmitted externally.

Notifications

CG Responder uses local notifications to alert you to incoming attendance requests, updates and stand down messages. No notification data is sent to external servers.
